Forklift scale plays important role at brake manufacturer

    Weightron Admin|28 March, 2019

A LiftWeigh™ forklift weighing system supplied to leading forklift truck manufacturer Linde Material Handling by Weightron Bilanciai is playing a small yet important role for EBC Brakes at their new world headquarters at a 12-acre site in Northampton.

Forklift scale plays important role at brake manufacturer

With a worldwide workforce of over 400 people, EBC (part of the Freeman Group) manufacture the world’s largest range of brake components for every conceivable type of moving vehicle. All manufactured items are weighed during the packaging process before being loaded for delivery. This ensures that no individual pallets are over or underweight and those collection vehicles are not overloaded. The Liftweigh weighing system has a working capacity of 2500 kg with 1 kg resolution and is fitted to EBC’s new ‘E’ series Linde counterbalance truck. A Weightron Bilanciai EV22 weight indicator mounted in the cab displays and records the weight.

LiftWeigh has been specifically developed to meet all essential criteria for retrofit forklift truck weighing systems. The robust LiftWeigh system consists of two weigh assemblies, which fit side by side directly on standard forklift carriages – without the need for any mechanical alterations to the forklift itself whatsoever. The forks then simply hook onto the weighing units and robust, fully protected cable assemblies are connected via a junction box to the onboard weight indicator. Liftweigh provides far better performance than systems based around the forklift’s hydraulics and unlike these systems can be easily transferred from one forklift to another. The system has high resistance to shock and side loads as independently verified by an external test house.

EBC also have 3 Weightron T100 Pallet Truck Weighers within the packing area that is used for initial weight checks.

EBC’s Simon O’Brien is very pleased with the LiftWeigh system: “Weighing plays a vital role in our warehousing processes and having the ability to weigh pallets directly from the forklift has important operational and safety advantages.”

Linde’s Area Sales Manager David Adams commented: “LiftWeigh is the simplest, yet most effective, retrofit forklift weighing system we have seen. Fitting is extremely straightforward and the system offers robust accuracy and performance”.

      Frequently Asked Questions

      What is a Weighbridge?

A Weighbridge (US truck scale) is a large, low-profile scale used to weigh both road and off-road vehicles (rigid and articulated lorries, dumper trucks, vans etc) and their contents. The load carried by the vehicle is calculated by weighing the vehicle both empty and loaded. The main weighbridge deck structure can be constructed from steel, pre-stressed concrete or steel-concrete composite.

      What is a Pit-Mounted Weighbridge?

Installed inside a pit, these weighbridges sit flush with the road surface. As they don’t require ramps, they take up less road surface compared to surface mount installations. Suitable for sites with restricted access.

      What is a Surface-Mounted Weighbridge?

Installed above ground, these weighbridges incorporate steel or concrete ramps to allow vehicles to drive on and off. One advantage is that the ramps slow down vehicle entry speed. Less foundation works are required when compared with pit mount installations. Surface designs are suitable for temporary/portable installations when used with steel ramps.
