Importance of Weighbridge Accuracy

The performance and reliability of a weighbridge are influenced by several critical factors, including the mechanical design and build quality, the quality of essential components such as load cells, mounting hardware, and instrumentation, as well as the effectiveness of the calibration procedure.

Regular Calibration and Legal Responsibilities

Routine calibration of your weighbridge is essential, with annual checks recommended to maintain accuracy. Owners of trade weighbridges are legally required to ensure their equipment meets statutory tolerances. Non-compliance may result in prosecution, fines, or closure by trading standards authorities.

Certification and Testing Procedures

We are certified for both initial verification and re-qualification of weighbridges, as outlined in our Module D Certificate issued by the Approved Body UKMB. Our operations include five dedicated weighbridge test units across the UK. Calibration involves placing UKAS traceable weights on the weighbridge in accordance with prescribed methods. During this process, tests are conducted to confirm and establish the following:

•       Zero point
•       Maximum capacity (Span)
•       Linearity and hysteresis
•       Eccentric error (corner loading)

Component Replacement and Re-Verification

Whenever critical components such as load cells or instrumentation are replaced, re-testing and re-verification of the weighbridge are mandatory. It is vital that any replacement load cells are approved for use with the specific weighbridge design and make by the relevant authorities.
