    Weightron weighbridge plays important role in IVC process converting biowaste into compost

    A heavy-duty surface Eurodeck weighbridge, installed by Weightron Bilanciai, is playing a crucial role at Wastewise’s In-Vessel Composting (IVC) facility at Leighton near Crewe.*

    IVCs are used to treat food and garden waste mixtures, ensuring that composting takes place in an enclosed environment, with accurate temperature control and monitoring. The Crewe site is helping Cheshire East Council to achieve targeted cost savings, whilst helping to significantly improve its recycling performance.

    The Wastewise facility is required to keep accurate weight records of all materials entering and leaving the site. The all-steel 50-tonne weighbridge, measuring 15 x 3.2 metres, is used for weighing a wide range of delivery vehicles bringing waste into the site from local authorities and industrial enterprises. It also weighs the collection vehicles taking away the composted material.

    The vehicle weighing information is recorded on Weightron’s DD700 weight indicator installed in the gatehouse. The user-friendly DD700 weighing terminal comes preloaded with both single and double-weighing (vehicle in/out) programs. The instrument is fitted with an optional MPP memory card, which can be used to store individual vehicle information such as tire weight and registration details. This capability significantly speeds up vehicle throughput. The weighbridge system interfaces directly with the site’s weighing management software via the optional Ethernet card. A tally roll printer provides drivers with a printout of weighing for their records.

    Weightron engineers were responsible for the complete installation, including the self-verification of the weighbridge in line with weights and measures requirements. The installation includes concrete entry-exit ramps and traffic lights, whilst integrated steel side barriers ensure vehicles stay within the weighbridge deck.
