Weightron & The Chesterfield Champion Network

    Weightron Admin|3 September, 2025

At Weightron, we are committed to fostering talent, and helping to build the careers of the people that work for us.

Ever since our establishment, we have been investing heavily in community support initiatives and apprenticeships. That way, we can equip our teams with everything that they need to keep advancing with us.

That is why, at Weightron, we are extremely proud to be part of the Chesterfield Champion Network.

The network has recently celebrated 10 years and – as a proudly Chesterfield-based business ourselves – we have been deeply impressed by the work that they have been doing across the region.

What is the Chesterfield Champion Network?

The Chesterfield Champion Network is an initiative that was launched 10 years ago, by Destination Chesterfield.

Destination Chesterfield works to raise the profile of Chesterfield, and co-ordinates its promotion by collaborating with both residents and businesses alike.

Chesterfield Champions has been a critical part of these efforts, particularly in showcasing the strength and developments of the region’s economy.

The Chesterfield Champions scheme is a strong (and ever-expanding) network of regional organisations, who have pledged their commitment to Chesterfield and its future.

Today, there are over 230 Chesterfield Champions. These champions are proudly supporting the local economy, and showcasing the area as a great place to work.

Through this initiative, invaluable links are being established between the local community and leading businesses, to the advantage of everyone involved.

What does the Chesterfield Champion Network achieve?

The work of the Chesterfield Champions is far-reaching, and brings key benefits to both the businesses involved and the local community.

For example, one of the most successful elements of the Chesterfield Champions is the Made in Chesterfield initiative.

This initiative closes the gap between schools and local firms, to make skills development and career opportunities in manufacturing, engineering and construction more accessible for young people.

Champions businesses can inspire the future workforce, and encourage students to sign up for STEM subjects. In fact, since 2014, more than 3,500 students in the area have explored career opportunities in manufacturing, engineering and construction.

According to Ivan Fomin, Destination Chesterfield Board Member, this initiative has been critical to fostering community support, and helping to connect young people to new career prospects.

“With an ageing workforce creating a skills gap in manufacturing, it’s crucial to cultivate new talent. These tours and interactions give young people invaluable insights into the promising careers in STEM fields.”

At Weightron, we are proud to be a local, Chesterfield business, which has built up an international reputation.

As one of Europe’s leading manufacturers and suppliers of weighbridges, we are always looking for inquisitive new talent to join our team – and if we can support our local community at the same time, what could be better! To find out more about the work that we do within the Chesterfield Champion Network, or to speak to our team about our careers opportunities, get in touch with Weightron today.

      Frequently Asked Questions

      What is a Weighbridge?

A Weighbridge (US truck scale) is a large, low-profile scale used to weigh both road and off-road vehicles (rigid and articulated lorries, dumper trucks, vans etc) and their contents. The load carried by the vehicle is calculated by weighing the vehicle both empty and loaded. The main weighbridge deck structure can be constructed from steel, pre-stressed concrete or steel-concrete composite.

      What is a Pit-Mounted Weighbridge?

Installed inside a pit, these weighbridges sit flush with the road surface. As they don’t require ramps, they take up less road surface compared to surface mount installations. Suitable for sites with restricted access.

      What is a Surface-Mounted Weighbridge?

Installed above ground, these weighbridges incorporate steel or concrete ramps to allow vehicles to drive on and off. One advantage is that the ramps slow down vehicle entry speed. Less foundation works are required when compared with pit mount installations. Surface designs are suitable for temporary/portable installations when used with steel ramps.
