Inspiring Future Engineers: Springwell Students Tour Weightron Bilanciai
As part of the Made in Chesterfield initiative, Weightron Bilanciai recently opened its doors to students from Springwell Community College, giving them a firsthand look at local career opportunities in engineering and manufacturing.
The visit offered students the chance to explore the world of precision weighing systems and the vital role technology plays in modern industry. Elise, a student on the tour, said the visit was “very important and also kind of fun,” adding that the experience confirmed her desire to pursue a future in engineering. “I like getting hands-on, and this really showed me what that could look like,” she explained.
Ben from Weightron, who led the tour, highlighted the significance of engaging students early. “Hopefully, we can inspire young kids to think about their future careers now, whether they want to go the university route or consider apprenticeships,” he said.
Sean, a teacher from Springwell, echoed this sentiment: “Work experience opportunities like this are vital. Students pass places like this every day without realising the careers inside. Bringing them in bridges that gap.”
The students also met Rhys, a current Weightron apprentice, who shared his own journey. “It’s been challenging but really rewarding,” he said. “I’ve already learned so much in just a few months, and showing younger students what’s possible is really important; it gives them a real example to follow.”
Weightron remains committed to supporting education and apprenticeships, helping to nurture the next generation of skilled workers in Chesterfield and beyond.
